Tigers Conduct Media Day

TOWSON, Md. - With only ten days remaining before their season opener, the Tigers took time out from pre-season practice to host their annual Media Day.

The highlight of every Media Day is the official team photo. After at least 15 minutes of arranging the players in rows and making sure everyone is lined up correctly, the team photo is shot. Kanji Takeno, the official Towson University photographer, takes the official team photo while photgraphers from other media outlets follow his lead.

Once the team photo is taken, the three-ring circus starts. Players head in a number of different directions. Members of the media jostle for position to get interviews with coaches and players while the players move from station to station to get photos taken.

Group photos are the most popular activity.

First, the coaching staff photo is taken. Rob Ambrose and his staff usually line up quickly.

Then, the official captains photo is taken. After that, the seniors get together for their photo, an image that traditionally graces the cover of the game program for the final home game of the season.

Then, the players and coaches break down into groups to have their position photos taken. Every group wants its photo taken first and every group wants to do something unique.

When Media Day is over, Kanji Takeno and his assistant, Desiree Stover, are relieved. But, they know the next Media Day is only 365 days away.

Among the media attending the Tigers' Media Day on Wednesday were Stan Saunders of WJZ-TV, Rich Scherr of The Baltimore Sun, John Collinsworth of WNST-Radio and Mat Schlissel of the CAA Zone. Dayne Buttafuoco and Damon Lewis of TowsonTigers.com were also on hand for interviews.

On Thursday, the Tigers return to their pre-game preparations with a scrimmage at 1:00 p.m.
