Towson- Morgan State Post-Game Notes

The Tigers won their season opener for the first time since 2007 when they defeated Central Connecticut, 20-10 ... The Tigers' crowd of 9,759 was the third-largest football crowd in Unitas Stadium history.

The win over Morgan State marked the Tigers' 12th consecutive victory over the Bears at Unitas Stadium ... Morgan State has not won at Unitas Stadium since 1981 when the Bears pulled out a 17-13 win ... This marked the ninth time that Towson and Morgan opened the season against each other ... Towson has won five of those contests ... Towson and Morgan have now met 23 times and the Tigers own a 17-6 series lead ... The Tigers' 17 wins against Morgan are the most victories they have posted against any opponent.

Junior linebacker Alexander DiSanzo had an impressive debut for the Tigers ... A transfer from Boston College, he made a team high seven tackles.

Senior safety Jordan Dangerfield also had a big game for the Tigers as he accounted for both Morgan State turnovers ... He intercepted a pass in the first quarter and recovered a fumble in the third period.

In their season opener, the Tigers unveiled a very balanced offense ... The Tigers accumulated 264 rushing yards and passed for 270 yards ... Making his first career start, quarterback Grant Enders completed 15 of 19 passes for 197 yards and three touchdowns ... He also ran for 47 yards on six attempts and scored a touchdown.

Quarterback Peter Athens came off the bench to complete all three passes for 73 yards and a touchdown ... He closed out the scoring by throwing a ten-yard touchdown pass to Spencer Wilkins ... Nine different receivers caught passes for the Tigers.

Freshman punter R.J. Peppers made his college debut and punted only once ... He had a 49-yard punt in the second quarter ... The Tigers' offense was very efficient as they produced six scoring drives in 12 possessions ... Their six scoring drives were an average of 74 yards as they scored off drives of 69, 77, 74, 68, 73 and 85 yards ... The Tigers converted 12 of 16 on third down.

Junior Tremayne Dameron led all rushers with 71 yards on nine carries ... Dominique Booker ran for 60 yards on 11 carries while sophomore Sterlin Phifer, a transfer from Boston College, picked up 59 yards on 13 carries and scored a touchdown.

Junior Tom Ryan caught three passes for 55 yards to lead the Tigers ... Junior Gerrard Sheppard, a transfer from Connecticut, had two receptions for 40 yards, including a 25-yard touchdown catch ... Freshman Derrick Joseph had an impressive debut with 134 all-purpose yards ... He caught two passes for 63 yards and had a 28-yard punt return.

By holding Morgan State to three points, the Tigers turned in their best defensive effort since the 2006 season when they beat Morgan State, 30-2 ... The Tiger defense held Morgan to six first downs and only 48 yards rushing ... Morgan was limited to 160 total yards.

The Tigers' 39-point margin of victory was the largest margin of victory since a 70-0 win over Lock Haven in 2005 ... The Tigers' 534 yards of total offense were their most since they had 627 yards at Delaware in 2006 ... Towson is now 22-5 when opening the season at home.

Towson is now 27-16 all-time in season openers ... The Tigers have won their last seven home openers.

Long-time Sports Information Director Peter Schlehr was honored at halftime of the game against Morgan State ... He retired in June after 36 seasons with the Tigers and saw 379 consecutive football games.
