TOWSON, Md.
– Led by senior quarterback
Grant Enders, ten members of the Towson University football team have been named to the pre-season
All-Colonial Athletic Association team, selected by College Sports Madness, a
web site that covers NCAA FCS Football.
The CAA leader
in passing efficiency last season, Enders is one of five Tigers who earned
All-CAA pre-season first team honors from College Sports Madness. He completed
67.3 percent of his passes and threw for 2,081 yards and 16 touchdowns while
leading the Tigers to a 9-3 record and the CAA championship.
Senior
defensive end Frank Beltre, senior defensive back Jordan Dangerfield,
sophomore kick returner Derrick Joseph
and sophomore running back Terrance West were also named for the first team.
Junior
tackle Eric Pike and junior cornerback Jordan Love
earned spots on the College Sports Madness
second team while junior tight end James Oboh, junior center Doug Shaw and junior guard Charles Johnson were third team honorees.
A
third-year starter on the defensive line, Beltre made 68 tackles last season,
including 12 tackles for lost yardage. Dangerfield led the Tigers by making 93
tackles in 2011. He also intercepted two passes, forced two fumbles and
recovered a pair of fumbles. Beltre and Dangerfield were both named first team
All-CAA last season.
Joseph led
the CAA with a 27.9 average on kickoff returns as a freshman. He had a 93-yard
kickoff return against New Hampshire and was named second team All-CAA. Named
as the winner of the Jerry Rice Award as the top freshman in FCS football, West
ran for 1,294 yards on 194 carries last season. The second-leading rusher in
the CAA, he averaged 6.7 yards per carry and led NCAA FCS by scoring 29 touchdowns.
A 6-5,
298-pound lineman who has started 23 consecutive games at left tackle, Pike has
been a leader on the offensive line for the last two seasons. Love is a
transfer student from the University of Georgia who should make an impact on
the Tigers' defense.
The Tigers'
fifth-leading receiver last season, Oboh caught 16 passes for 297 yards and
three touchdowns. He led the team by averaging 18.6 yards per catch.
A 6-1,
265-pound offensive center, Shaw started 11 of 12 games last season. A two-year
regular at guard, Johnson is a 6-2, 295-pound veteran.
