NEWARK, Del. - Here are some post-game notes after Towson's 34-27 overtime win at Delaware on Saturday.
FOURTH DOWN PERFECTION: In the win over Delaware, Coach Rob Ambrose went for a first down on fourth down four times and the Tigers converted all four of them.
1) In the second quarter, the Tigers had a fourth-and-two on the Delaware 37-yard line. Quarterback Grant Enders picked up three yards on a quarterback sneak to keep a drive alive.
2) Just three plays later, the Tigers had a fourth-and-one at the Delaware 25. Enders faked a handoff, rolled to his left and fired a pass to freshman fullback Emmanuel Holder. Holder caught the pass, picked up a block from tight end James Oboh and scored the first touchdown of his career to give Towson a 14-7 lead.
3) On the opening drive of the third quarter, the Tigers faced a fourth-and-two at the Delaware 21-yard line. Enders ran for five yards and a first down, keeping a touchdown drive alive.
4) Late in the fourth quarter, with the Tigers trailing by 24-20, they faceed a fourth-and-seven at their own 49-yard line. Enders converted the first down by hitting senior Tom Ryan with an eight-yard pass that kept a drive alive. The Tigers eventually scored the go-ahead touchdown with 44 seconds left.
The Tigers are now 11-for-18 on fourth down this season.
BLOCK PARTY: Junior place kicker Sean Baner came into the game as one of the most reliable kickers in FCS football. However, he had a tough day against Towson on Saturday. Early in the second quarter, his 40-yard field goal attempt was blocked by junior Arnold Farmer. It was Towson's first blocked kick of the season. In the fourth quarter, Baner missed a 37-yard field goal attempt that would have given the Blue Hens a 27-20 lead. He did come back and booted a 40-yard field goal with two seconds left to send the game into overtime.
WORKING OVERTIME: The Tigers' 34-27 overtime victory at Delaware on Saturday was the first time that Towson played an overtime contest in a Colonial Athletic Association game. It was also the eighth overtime game in program history. The Tigers are now 6-2 in overtime games. It was Towson's first overtime game since a five-overtime win over Coastal Carolina in 2010.
CAREER HIGH: Senior wide receiver Tom Ryan caught a pass for the 20th straight game at Delaware. Ryan also had a career high eight receptions for 67 yards as he moved into 15th place on Towson's all-time receiving list. Ryan, who had three catches for 27 yards on Towson's fourth quarter drive for a touchdown, now has 115 catches for 1,359 yards in his career.
ROAD WARRIORS: After beating Delaware at Delaware Stadium on Saturday, the Tigers have won two of three Colonial Athletic Association road games this season. Towson also won at Villanova and dropped a 13-10 decision at James Madison. Dating back to last season, Towson has won six of its last seven CAA road games.
WEST HITS ANOTHER MILESTONE: Playing in the 19th game of his college career, sophomore Terrance West became the fifth player in school history to run for more than 2,000 yards when he ran for 113 yards on 30 carries. He now has 2,089 yards on 364 yards with a school record 41 rushing touchdowns. West has scored a total of 42 career TD's, just five shy of the school record set by Jason Corle, '01.
TIGERS END BLUE HENS' STREAK: When the Tigers edged the Blue Hens on Saturday, it ended a five-game losing streak against Delaware. It was Towson's first win over Delaware since 2006 when the Tigers beat Delaware, 49-35. Delaware leads the series, 9-5.
CLOSING IN ON 1,000 YARDS: Senior running back Dominique Booker and senior quarterback Grant Enders are poised to become the 22nd and 23rd players in school history to rush for 1,000 yards. Booker, who scored his first touchdown of the season at Delaware, now has 994 yards on 222 careers and needs only six yards to reach the milestone. Enders has 965 yards on 180 carries in his career and needs just 35 yards to become the first Tiger quarterback to rush for 1,000 yards.
LONG DRIVES: At the start of the third quarter, the Tigers staged their longest drive of the season. They marched 75 yards on 16 plays and used up 8:42 of the third quarter before Terrance West scored on a one-yard touchdown run to give Towson a 20-10 lead. It was Towson's longest drive of the season in terms of plays and time used. Towson's longest drive of the season was its 92-yard, 14-play drive at James Madison that used up 7:24.
UP NEXT: Towson closes out its home schedule next Saturday against Rhode Island at 3:30 p.m. It will be the final home game for 16 Tiger seniors.
