TOWSON, Md. - The Towson women's tennis team will begin its spring season on Friday, nearly one week after its schedule spring opener at Hofstra was cancelled due to snowy conditions in New York. Instead, the Tigers will travel to College Park and face Maryland for a match with the Terrapins at 2 p.m. It will be the first match for Towson since Oct. 4 at Mount St. Mary's.
"The girls are looking sharper every day," Towson head coach Doug Neagle commented. "Maryland is a very tough
opening match, but I like that because it will show the girls where we are at early
on."
Against The Mount, Towson was led by juniors Nani Lizana, Nisha Shah and Ariel Burke and freshman Lorena Ferrer. The quartet all earned singles victories in straight sets and helped Towson (1-0) to its first win of the season.
Lizana also teamed with senior Andrea Samlin to earn a doubles victory over the Mount St. Mary's duo of Samantha Pinchoff and Kelly Conroy, while Moriah Burke and sophomore Cailey Easdale also earned a doubles victory for Towson.
Friday's match against Maryland will be part of two matches in two days for the Tigers, who face Salisbury University on Saturday night.
The Tigers have also competed in two tournaments at Navy and hosted the Tiger Classic in early September. However, there was no team scoring in those matches.
