WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Towson women's tennis team's season came to an end on Friday, as the Tigers (12-10, 2-5 CAA) were dealt a 4-0 loss to third-seeded James Madison in the quarterfinals of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament. The match was stopped after the Dukes won the decisive fourth point.
"I can't tell you how proud I am of these girls," Towson head coach Doug Neagle said. "We had such a good team dynamic. It was an honor to coach them."
The match began in the doubles play, with the Tigers picking up a win at the No. 2 spot courtesy of the duo of Nani Lizana and Ariel Burke. They defeated Cara Wirth and Katherine Bulling 8-2. However, James Madison won the doubles point after wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
Three James Madison players then won their matches in singles play, giving the Dukes the winning fourth point and ending the match.
The loss ended the careers of seniors Moriah Burke and Andrea Samlin. Burke ended the season with a 9-6 record in doubles play, while Samlin finished her final season as the team leader in singles victories. She ended the year with a 17-7 record.
