TOWSON, Md. – Drexel University closed the game on a 20-4 run to pull away from the Towson University women’s basketball team and claim a 60-43 win on Friday afternoon in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action. Junior guard Ciara Webb had a game and career-high nine rebounds in a game that had been schedule for February 13 but was postponed due to the snow storm.

Towson opened the game on a 12-7 run and took a five-point lead with 10:01 to play in the half. Sophomore guard Dominique Johnson had five of the 12 while senior guard Tanisha McTiller had four points during that stretch. The two teams traded baskets as a jumper from McTiller at 7:16 put the home team up 16-12. However, a jumper from Abby Redick at 6:57 started a 13-3 run by the visitors to close out the half. That scoring stretch turned a four-point deficit into a six-point advantage for Drexel at the intermission. Redick had four points for the Dragons, who held a 25-19 lead at the break.

Drexel (12-11, 7-3 CAA) shot 38.5% from the field in the first half while Towson (11-13, 5-6 CAA) shot 27.6%. The Dragons held a 22-17 lead in the rebounding battle after 20 minutes of play. Redick led all first-half scorers with nine points while McTiller had seven.

A 10-6 run to start the second half gave Drexel a 35-25 lead with 16:51 to play. Rachel Pearson scored eight of the Dragons’ 10 in that stretch. The Tigers weren’t done fighting yet as a 14-5 run pulled the home team to within one, 40-39 with 10:24 to play in the game. Webb tallied four points during that stretch. However, a lay-up from Fiona Flanagan started the 20-4 run by the Dragons to close out the game. Flanagan had seven points during that stretch while Redick had six points to help the Dragons close out the 60-43 victory.

Drexel shot 46.4% from the field in the second half and 42.6% for the game. The Dragons were aided by eight three-pointers in the game. Towson shot 35.5% in the second half and 31.7% from the field for the game. The Tigers outrebounded the Dragons in the second half and finished the game with a 38-37 advantage.

McTiller led the Tigers with 14 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals. The three steals put her over 200 for her career. She is just the ninth player in school history to record 200 or more steals in her career. Johnson had 12 points and two rebounds for the Tigers. Webb made her first start of the season and added seven points to her team-leading nine rebounds.

Redick led all players with 19 points and four rebounds while Pearson had 14 points and eight boards for the Dragons.

Towson is back in action on Sunday, Feb. 16 when it travels to Delaware for a 2 p.m. game.
