Balanced Tigers Breeze Past The Citadel, 84-59

TOWSON, Md. – Sophomore Four McGlynn led four Tigers in double figures with a season-high 19 points as the Towson men’s basketball team cruised past The Citadel, 84-59, in the first game of the Battle 4 Atlantis Mainland Tournament at SECU Arena on Friday evening.

The Tigers improved to 5-2 on the year and have now won nine straight home games, their longest home winning streak since capturing 22 straight from 1992-95.

McGlynn shot 6-for-10 from the field and 4-for-7 from beyond the arc while also grabbing a season-high five rebounds. Senior Mike Burwell tallied a season-high 17 points on 7-for-13 shooting while dishing out a career-high six assists. Marcus Damas (16) and Jerrelle Benimon (13) also scored in double figures for the Tigers.

After a three-pointer from The Citadel’s Marshall Harris III opened the scoring, the Tigers tallied the next 12 points to grab an early nine-point lead. The Bulldogs trailed just 26-24 with 4:20 remaining in the opening half, but Towson posted 13 of the periods final 14 points to take a 39-25 lead into the intermission.

Towson continued its hot shooting in the second half, scoring the first 11 points of the stanza. A Damas free throw at the 17:02 mark capped a 24-1 Tiger run spanning the halves and gave the home team a 50-25 lead. The Tigers would coast from that point on, leading by as many as 38 points in the second half.

Towson held a 48-33 rebounding advantage and a 42-22 edge in points in the paint. Sophomore Timajh Parker-Rivera led the Tigers charge on the glass, grabbing a career-high 11 boards.
Freshman Warren Sledge led the Bulldogs (3-5) with 14 points on 5-for-8 shooting.

The Tigers will look for their 10th straight home win on Saturday against Abilene Christian. Tip time is set for 1 p.m. at SECU Arena. That game will be followed by The Citadel taking on West Alabama in the final game of the tournament.
