TOWSON, Md. - Unbeaten through
their first four games, the Tigers have moved up to 17th in the nation
according to The Sports Network's weekly NCAA Division I-AA poll.
The Tigers, who were idle last week, are ranked in the top 25 for
the third week in a row. After breaking into the poll at number 21
three weeks ago, they moved up to 19th in the nation after a 33-30
victory over Hofstra. The Tigers were idle last week and they moved up
to 17th in the nation.
This is the highest national ranking that the Tigers have ever earned at the NCAA Division I-AA level.
The Tigers are one of six Atlantic 10 Football Conference teams that
are ranked in the top 25 this week. Undefeated New Hampshire (4-0) is
ranked number one while unbeaten Richmond (4-0) is ranked seventh in
the nation. Massachusetts (3-1), whose only loss came at Navy by 21-20,
is ranked tenth while James Madison (3-1) is 13th-ranked.
After the 17th-ranked Tigers, Delaware (2-2) is ranked 18th. In
addition, Maine (2-2) and Hofstra (2-2) are listed among others
receiving votes.
In his 15th season as the Tigers' coach, Gordy Combs
leads the Tigers into a key A-10 contest on Saturday afternoon when
they host Maine at 3:00 p.m. Designated as the Atlantic 10 Game of the
Week, the Towson-Maine game will be televised locally on Comcast
SportsNet Mid-Atlantic.
Sophomore quarterback Sean Schaefer, the Atlantic
10 Offensive Player of the Week two weeks ago, directs the Tigers'
passing attack which leads the nation by averaging 297 yards per game.
