PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Senior offensive tackle Jermon Bushrod (King George H.S./King George, Va.) and senior wide receiver Eric Yancey
(Seneca Valley H.S./Germantown, Md.) of Towson University have been
named to All-Atlantic 10 Football Conference first team, it has been
announced by conference officials.
In addition, junior linebackers Brian Bradford (Gaithersburg H.S./Germantown, Md.) and John Webb (Winslow Township H.S./Sicklerville, N.J.) were named as second and third team picks.
A 6-5, 325-pound lineman who was a four-year starter at left tackle,
Bushrod was named to the All-Atlantic 10 team for the third year in a
row. He was honored as a third team selection as a sophomore and
junior. A starter in the final 38 games of his college career, he was
one of the Tiger co-captains as a senior.
“It was quite a luxury to have a player of Jermon's caliber starting at left tackle for the last four years,” said Coach Gordy Combs, who finished his 15th
season as the Tigers' coach. “He was a major part of our offensive
success and he will be missed. Jermon is one of the best linemen we've
had here at Towson and we are hoping that he gets an opportunity to
play professionally.”
The Tigers' leading pass receiver as a senior, Yancey caught 68
passes for 826 yards and scored ten touchdowns. The second-leading
receiver in the Atlantic-10, he finished 12th in NCAA
Division I-AA in pass receiving. Yancey finished his career as the
eight-leading receiver in school history with 138 receptions for 1,814
yards and 16 touchdowns.
"Eric had a tremendous senior year for us,” said Combs. “Earning
first team all-conference honors in the Atlantic 10 is quite a
compliment.”
A third team All-Atlantic 10 pick as a sophomore, Bradford was
second on the team with 74 tackles despite missing two games with an
injury. A third-year starter who stands 6-2, 235 pounds, Bradford made
nine tackles for lost yardage and had one sack. He finished 11th in the conference in tackles.
A three-year starter on the Tiger defense, Webb was fifth on the
team with 59 tackles. The 6-3, 220-pound Webb made nine tackles for
lost yardage and tied for the team lead with 3½ quarterback sacks. He
also tied for the Atlantic 10 Conference lead with three fumble
recoveries.
The Tigers, who were ranked in the Top 25 for most of the season,
finished the year with a 7-4 record, their second winning season in a
row. The Tigers also finished third in the Southern Division of the
Atlantic 10 with a 4-4 record. Towson remained in contention for a
berth in the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs until the final week of the
