MEN'S BASKETBALL: Gary Neal Named As Pre-Season All-American

11/1/2006

TOWSON, Md. ? Senior guard Gary Neal (Calvert Hall H.S./Aberdeen, Md.) of  the Tigers has been named to the Pre-Season Mid-Major All-America team, as selected by collegeinsider.com. The 25-person All-America team was selected by a committee that consisted of the staff of collegeinsider.com, Division I basketball coaches and National Basketball Association scouts.

A member of the All-Colonial Athletic Association pre-season first team, Neal averaged 26.1 points per game last season. He is the top returning scorer in NCAA Division I. However, he was not eligible for the NCAA scoring title last season since he played in only 17 of the Tigers' 28 games.

A three-time selection as the CAA Player of the Week in 2005-06, Neal transferred to Towson after two years at LaSalle University.

A second team All-CAA pick last year, the 6-4 Neal shot 44.5 per cent from the floor and 40.5 per cent from three-point range. An 80.3 per cent free throw shooter, he averaged 3.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game for the Tigers. In 17 games for the Tigers, he scored 30 points or more points in seven games and had a 40-point outing at James Madison University.

Neal is one of four CAA players named to the Pre-Season Mid-Major All-America team. Junior Antoine Agudio of Hofstra, senior T.J. Carter of UNC Wilmington and Dominick Mejia of Drexel were also honored.

Starting their third season under the direction of Coach Pat Kennedy, the Tigers have four starters and ten letter winners returning from last year's team which posted a 12-16 overall record.

The Tigers open the regular season on Monday, November 13 with a 7:00 p.m. game against the University of Hartford in the Towson Center.
