MEN'S BASKETBALL: Shaun Morris Named Assistant Coach

TOWSON, Md. ? Shaun Morris (Camp Hill, Pa./Trinity H.S./Lycoming College) continues to rise through the Towson University ranks with the appointment as assistant men's basketball coach.

“I am very excited about the addition of Shaun as a full-time assistant to our men's basketball program,” said head coach Pat Kennedy in making the announcement. “Over the years I have had a long history and success with seeing young coaches develop to be a positive force in our business. Shaun will be no exception.”

Morris will be in his fourth year with Towson's program. After one year as a volunteer assistant he was named Coordinator of Basketball Operations by Kennedy. He served in that capacity for two years before accepting the appointment as assistant coach.

The next several seasons will be special for Shaun whose younger brother, Brian, joins the Tigers for his sophomore year.

Morris hails from a basketball family. His dad, John Morris, was a two-year starter at nearby Loyola College during his intercollegiate career. Shaun's three brothers each helped Trinity High School to a Pennsylvania State Class AA championship. Each was a 1,000-point career scorer in high school. All four brothers have played college basketball; John at Old Dominion, Shaun and Kevin at Lycoming, and Brian who is transferring into the Tigers' program from Richmond.

Kevin was recently named 2008 Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation Scholar Athlete of the Year for men's basketball.

Shaun was captain of Trinity's 29-4 team that captured the 2001 state title, averaging 13.0 points, 7.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds. He was named All-Conference and All-District.

After a freshman year at Wheeling Jesuit University, Shaun transferred to Lycoming where he was a three-year starter, helping the Warriors to a 53-27 record that included a MAC Freedom Conference championship and a trip to the 2004 NCAA tournament. He finished his college career as the Warriors' all-time career assist leader with 355. His 154 assists in 2004-05 remain the single season program record. He also held the school record for assists in a game with 10 against Delaware Valley and Marymount.

Shaun was a captain in his senior year at Lycoming when he received the school's Academic Achievement Award for men's basketball. In his junior year the marketing major was the Dutch Burch Award winner, given for outstanding desire and defensive intensity. A Dean's List student, he was also an active member of the Institute of Management Studies at Lycoming.
