TOWSON, Md. -- Food, music, and Towson pride brought nearly a thousand students to Unitas Stadium Thursday night for the Fall Sports Pep Rally.
TU's marching band kicked off the night for Kristen Guy, SGA president, who talked about the importance of athletics to building school spirit as well as giving an overview of the new Doc's Army Concept.
Mike Hermann, Director of Athletics, gave a welcome speech to thank all the TigerVision partners and introduce President Bob Caret who was excited about the changes this new year brings, especially the changes in the athletic department.
“Lots of reasons you come to games; friendships, pride, and tradition. Think of Towson University as your home.”
President Caret also highlighted the importance of the new big screen HD video scoreboard known as Tigervision and its contribution to garnering excitement in athletics and school spirit.
“TigerVision is one more step. TigerVision is our vision. Let's see what we can do here at Johnny Unitas Stadium.”
Following Caret's presentation and the ceremonial unveiling of the Tigervision scoreboard was the fight song played by the marching band as well as a performance by 10- time National Champions, the TU Dance Team.
All of the fall sports made their introduction and got the crowd energized for the coming season. Cross country coach, Roger Erricker, geared up fan support and women's soccer coach, Greg Paynter, highlighted the benefits of Doc's Army before the BSU dance team gave their debut performance.
Field hockey coach, Michelle Webber, and men's soccer coach, Frank Olszewski, encouraged students to come out and show support for their teams before the cheerleaders got the crowd pumped up for the football players.
Senior football players were introduced by Coach Gordy Combs and brought to the stage to pep the crowd for Saturday's home game against Morgan State.
Seeing all of Towson's great athletes and coaches ready to play hard for TU this fall got students excited for this year and the changes that will, according to Coach Combs, “create the best home field advantage in the CAA “.
