Towson to Take on West Chester and Boston College this Weekend

TOWSON, Md. ? Looking to bounce back from its first loss of the season, the Tiger field hockey team will take on a pair of tough opponents this weekend. Towson (5-1) will host West Chester (3-3) on Friday, September 19 at 4 p.m. The Tigers will then travel to College Park, Md. to face off with #12 Boston College on Sunday, September 21 at 1 p.m.

The Tigers are coming off a 3-2 loss at Longwood on Sunday afternoon. In that contest, junior Mariah Schuette and freshman Katie DeFilippo each scored a goal for the Tigers. On the season, the Tigers are led by junior Christina Boarman who has tallied nine goals and three assists on the year. Senior Stephanie Kisic leads the Tigers with six assists on the season.

 

“This weekend we are looking forward to bouncing back from our disappointing loss against Longwood,” said Coach Michelle Webber. “We have played well against West Chester over the years and look to do so on Friday.”

 

West Chester enters Friday's game looking to snap a two-game losing streak. Despite a second-half comeback, the Golden Rams fell to Rider 3-2 on Wednesday night. Marisa Holzman and Desiree Walker each tallied a goal for West Chester in the contest. Joelle Zarefoss has made 53 saves in goal for the Golden Rams this year including 10 in the game against Rider on Wednesday.

 

“Our game against Boston College, a top 20 team, will definitely be one of our most difficult opponents so far this season, but will help us get ready for our conference games,” added Webber.

 

Boston College, entered the week ranked #12 in the NFHCA poll and moved to 5-0 on the year with a 4-2 win over Boston University on Wednesday night. The Eagles got a hat trick from Bob Dirks en route to the victory. Dirks leads the Eagles with eight goals on the season entering Boston College's game at Maryland on Saturday.

 

The Tigers return to action on Friday, September 26 as the Colonial Athletic Association schedule gets underway. The Tigers will host Virginia Commonwealth at 7 p.m. on Friday night.
