Tim Langton, '96 to Be Inducted Into Towson Athletics Hall of Fame

By Eric Rhew
Assistant Director of Athletic Media Relations

Former Tiger men's lacrosse player Tim Langton, '96 recalls the two game-winning goals he scored during his senior season against local rivals Loyola and Johns Hopkins. However, it was more than just those two goals that earned him the honor of being inducted into the Towson's Hall of Fame.

“Being a Hall of Famer means that you went to a school and worked in a program that was successful,” he says. “We listened to our coaches and did what they told us to do.”

He adds, “It is an accomplishment because we were playing the best teams in the country, which is what you dream of.”

A three-year starter at midfield, Langton is just the second player in school history to earn first team All-America honors at the Division I level. He was a first team All-American pick in 1996 when he captained the Tigers to a 9-5 record and a berth in the NCAA Quarter-Finals.

During his senior season, Langton was the Tigers' fourth-leading scorer with 27 goals and three assists. He scored the game-winning goal in overtime in late March to help the Tigers defeat the Greyhounds by a 12-11 margin and also tallied the eventual game-winning goal in a victory over Johns Hopkins.

“We had a great team because of the camaraderie with all of the guys and we went through many tough battles,” Langton says about that team. “We worked together getting through the battles and through all of the wins and losses.”

A first team All-AMERICA EAST selection, Langton finished his college career with 58 goals and 16 assists along with 95 ground balls. The Port Washington, N.Y. native led the Tigers to a 28-20 record during his career in addition to two NCAA Tournament appearances.

An Economics major at Towson, he was selected as the number one pick in the National Lacrosse League entry draft by the New York Saints. He went on to play 32 games for the Saints in three seasons, scoring five goals with 12 assists. But, it is his career as a Tiger that has made Langton successful in the real world.

“It gave me a competitive edge in life and taught me to get what you want,” he says. “I also gained a sense of being on a team and working together with a group of players. It was like being in a fraternity, which was spectacular.”

Currently an institutional securities broker, Langton resides in Plandome, N.Y. with his wife, Liz, and their three children.

Langton will be one of three former Tiger athletic greats who will be inducted into the Towson Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday, October 10 in the Susquehanna Room of the University Union. Former Tiger gymnast Wendy Chalmers, '95 and former Academic All-America ® baseball player James Vallillo, '96 will also be inducted in the ceremony.

In addition, the 1990 Tiger gymnastics team will be recognized as a Team of Distinction.

The cocktail hour will start at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. For ticket information, call 410-704-3284.
