Former Tiger Drew Pfarr Passes Away

TOWSON, Md.Drew Pfarr, a 2005 Towson graduate and former Tiger men's lacrosse player, passed away last Thursday evening. He was 27 years old.

A four-year starter at midfield for Coach Tony Seaman from 2001 to 2004, Pfarr played in 56 career games and scored 39 goals with 13 assists. He helped the Tigers to three conference championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances.

Pfarr played in 16 games as a freshman while helping the Tigers win the 2001 America East championship. The Tigers advanced to the NCAA semi-finals before losing to eventual champion Princeton and finished with a 14-4 record.

As a sophomore, Pfarr appeared in ten games and scored three goals while playing a key role in the Tigers' transition game. He also had 12 ground balls in 2002 as the Tigers made their debut in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Pfarr became more involved in the Tigers' offense as a junior and led all midfielders with 16 goals with 5 assists as Towson won the first of three straight CAA crowns.

A co-captain as a senior, Pfarr had his best season in 2004 when he ranked second on the team with 28 points. He scored 20 goals with 8 assists, including a career-high three-goal effort against Villanova in the CAA Championship Game. He also added a career-high four assists in the Tigers' 17-6 victory over Mount St. Mary's at Johnny Unitas® Stadium.

A Mass Communication major, Pfarr was selected by the Boston Cannons with the 27th pick in the 2004 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft.

After not playing for the Cannons, Pfarr was selected in the 2005 MLL Supplemental Draft by the Baltimore Bayhawks. He led the Bayhawks to the MLL title in 2005 while scoring nine goals, including a pair of two-point goals, with eight assists. He also ranked fourth on the team with 33 ground balls.

Pfarr was reacquired by the Cannons prior to the 2006 season and played in 12 games with seven goals and three assists.

He retired from the MLL after the 2007 season.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 31, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester Street in Annapolis. His life will be remembered and honored with a service at St. Mary's Church, which is located at 109 Duke of Gloucester Street in Annapolis on Saturday, August 1, at 9 a.m.
