Tiger Update: Towson makes its 2009-10 home debut by hosting a Preseason WNIT consolation bracket ... Towson is coming off a loss to West Virginia to start the season ... Shanae Baker-Brice scored 22 points in the opener ... she has scored 20+ points in three of her four season openers ... the Tigers are 5-3 in home openers under coach Joe Mathews.
Eagles Update: Winthrop improved to 1-1 on the year with a 58-47 win over Coker on Tuesday night ... the Eagles were led by Shanice Cole who scored a career-high 18 points to help erase a five-point halftime deficit ... Cole has grabbed 15 boards so far this season while TaQuoia Hammick has pulled down 12.
Against The Field: Of the three teams coming to the Towson Center this weekend, the Tigers have faced just Winthrop. The two squads met six times from 1992-95 when both were members of the Big South Conference. Whoever the Tigers face on Saturday, either Chicago State or North Carolina A&T, it will be the first ever meeting between the two schools.
Closing In On The Big 5-0-0: The Tiger basketball program is just ten wins away from the 500th in program history. Towson would become the fifth program in the CAA to reach the mark. Other schools to have reached 500 program wins include Delaware, Hofstra, James Madison and Old Dominion.
Sitting 10th: With her three rebounds against West Virginia, senior Kandace Davis moved into 10th place on the career rebounding list at Towson. Davis now has 588 boards. Davis needs 48 more rebounds to move into a tie for ninth with Kelly Robinson. Robinson finished her Tiger career with 636 rebounds.
What's On Tap?: The winner of today's game will face the winner of the North Carolina A&T and Chicago State game tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. ... the losers of Friday's action will meet at 5 p.m. on Saturday ... after this weekend's action, the Tigers return to the court when they host UMBC on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
