GYMNASTICS: Alise McDonald, Avis Hixon Earn ECAC Weekly Awards

CENTREVILLE, Mass. - Senior Alise McDonald and sophomore Avis Hixon of the Tiger gymnastics team have been named as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division I Gymnast of the Week and Specialist of the Week, it was announced by ECAC officials.

McDonald, the 2009 ECAC champion on floor exercise, was named as ECAC Gymnast of the Week for the second time in her career. She led the undefeated Tigers to a come-from-behind victory at the Ursinus College Quad Meet on Sunday.

McDonald finished first in the all-around competition with a 38.425 score. She also tied for first place on floor exercise (9.70) and finished fifth on bars (9.425). She took 11th place on balance beam (9.400).

With the Tigers trailing as they entered the final rotation, McDonald led the Tigers to an impressive 48.90 team score on balance beam as they earned a 190.225 team score to edge Bridgeport (189.025) for first place in the meet. McDonald led the Tigers' clutch performance on vault as she tied for first place with a 9.90 score, a mark that is just shy of her career high.

Named as ECAC Specialist of the Week for the third time in her career, Hixon excelled on vault and floor at the Ursinus Quad Meet. She tied for first place on floor exercise with a 9.70 score. Then, she helped the Tigers come from behind and win the meet with a career best 9.90 performance on vault.

Now 5-0 on the season, Coach Dick Filbert and the Tigers open their home schedule on Saturday, January 30 when they host William & Mary in the Towson Center at 2:00 p.m.
