Hillary Fratzke Named CAA Preseason Player of the Year

RICHMOND, Va. – Senior midfielder Hillary Fratzke of the Tiger women's lacrosse team has been selected as the 2010 Colonial Athletic Association Preseason Player of the Year, it has been announced by CAA officials.

In addition, senior midfielder Nikki Marcinik and senior defender Megan Mullis have been named to the Preseason All-CAA team.

Honored as the CAA Preseason Player of the Year for the second straight season, Fratzke enters the 2010 season with 148 career goals and 55 assists. The fourth-leading scorer in school history, she is also the program's all-time leader in draw controls (257) and caused turnovers (111). She is also fourth on the career list with 156 ground balls.

Fratzke, who was named to the CAA's 25th Anniversary Team, has recorded a point in all 54 games of her career and she begins the 2010 season with a streak of 48 consecutive games with a goal, which is the longest active streak in NCAA Division I.

Fratzke scored eight goals with five assists in three games last year before suffering a season-ending knee injury. A three-time All-CAA selection, she earned a medical “redshirt” and will serve as a co-captain for the third straight year during the 2010 season.

The leading goal scorer in the CAA last year, Marcinik scored 50 goals and contributed 20 assists. She scored at least one goal in all 19 games, including a career-high seven goals in a win over Drexel. A first team All-CAA selection last season, Marcinik also led the CAA in draw controls per game with a 2.89 average. She enters her senior season ranked tenth in school history with 126 points and needs just four goals to become the ninth player to reach 100 career goals.

A starter in all 19 games last year, Mullis tallied 32 ground balls and contributed 22 caused turnovers. She recorded a career-high five ground balls in the Tigers' overtime victory at Hofstra. Mullis also contributed four caused turnovers in the Tigers' wins over Johns Hopkins and Drexel. After seeing limited time as a freshman, Mullis has played in 33 of the Tigers' 38 games over the last two seasons.

The Tigers, who were picked to win their third consecutive CAA title in the preseason poll, will open their season on March 3 when they host UMBC at 4 p.m.
