Tigers Finish 5th At Fighting Camel Classic

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Senior Alejandra Estrada placed 11th to lead Towson's efforts at the 16th Annual Fighting Camel Classic played over the 6,012-yard, par 72 Keith Hills Country Club as the Tiger women's golf team opened its spring schedule.

The Tigers tied Dayton for 5th place in the team standings after Towson and the Flyers posted identical 662 scores.

The Southern schools dominated the competition. Host Campbell ran away with the team title with its four top players the only golfers in the event to post scores of 150 and lower. Estrada's 157 was the low score of all the northern golfers representing Dayton, Cleveland State and St. Francis of Pa. plus St. Andrews Presbyterian and South Carolina State.

"This event was the first time for us to play heading into the spring season due to weather," said assistant coach Kate Stepanek. "With that said, we left some shots out there, but we held it together and the girls should be very proud of themselves. We are preparing for the CAA's in April, and the way I saw the girls play this tournament, this was a great start."

Junior Emily Kwak tied for 13th with a 160. Her first round 78 tied Estrada's final round 78 for low round among the Tigers. Elsewhere sophomore Airielle Dawson tied for 20th, freshman Chelsea Harris tied for 42nd and senior Diana Woodall placed 49th..
