BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Sophomore Kacy Catanzaro earned a career high 38.925 all-around score to tie for first place as the Tigers (15-3) took second place in a quad meet at the University of Bridgeport on Friday night. Bridgeport won the meet with a season high 194.200 team score to edge the Tigers, who posted their second highest score of the season with a 193.075 score. Temple (190.650) finished third in the meet, just ahead of Southern Connecticut (190.375).
With her career best all-around score, Catanzaro tied for first place in the meet with Lorraine Galow of Bridgeport. Senior Alise McDonald of Towson was third in the all-around with a seasonal high 38.90 score.
Led by McDonald, the Tigers earned a 48.925 team score on vault. McDonald finished first on vault as she matched her career high with a 9.90 score. Sophomore Avis Hixon of Towson tied for second place on vault with Catanzaro and Katie Canning of Temple. All three of them had 9.85 scores.
On the uneven bars, the Tigers earned a seasonal high 48.15 team score. Catanzaro led the Tigers with a 9.725 score that earned her a share of second place in the meet. Hannah Forti of Bridgeport won the bars competition with a 9.75 score. Senior Jackie Schweitzer of Towson also contributed a 9.70 score on bars.
Catanzaro won the balance beam with a 9.75 while Emily Repko of Bridgeport tied for second with Galow with 9.725 scores. McDonald posted a 9.65 score on beam while sophomore Lindsay Poplaski earned a 9.575 score.
On floor exercise, Hixon earned a 9.725 score to lead the Tigers while Catanzaro had a 9.60 score.
"We had a really good meet," said Towson Coach Dick Filbert. "Bridgeport was just a little better than we were tonight. This was one of our best efforts of the season and we can keep going from here."
By finishing first in the all-around, Catanzaro earned her third all-around title of the season.
