TOWSON, Md. - A retirement reception in honor of Head Coach Dick Filbert of the Tiger gymnastics program and his wife, Assistant Coach Lynda Filbert, has been set for Friday, March 19 at the Sheraton Baltimore North. The reception will be held on the eve of their final home meet as the Tiger coaches.
The Tiger gymnastics team will close out its regular season on Saturday, March 20 when the Tigers host Brown University and Southern Connecticut in the Towson Center at 7:00 p.m.
The special tribute for the Filberts, which will be emceed by Keith Mills, '77 of WBAL-Radio, will commence with a reception at 6:00 p.m. A buffet dinner will follow at 7:00 p.m. prior to the evening's program. The program will feature remarks by Director of Athletics Mike Hermann and many alumni gymnasts from the 28 years that Dick Filbert was the Tigers' head coach.
Dick Filbert was named as the Tigers' head gymnastics coach in 1984. Over the last 28 seasons, he has led the Tigers to 28 winning records, 13 conference championships, 13 NCAA Division I regional appearances and one trip to Nationals. He has coached the Tigers to an impressive dual meet record of 486-148-2.
A former Tiger gymnast who competed for Coach George McGinty, Lynda Filbert has been the Tigers' assistant coach for the last 22 seasons. She has been named as the NCAA Southeast Regional Assistant Coach of the Year three times.
