TOWSON, Md. - The Tigers will play their 2010 home opener on Wednesday, March 10 against Seton Hall at 2 p.m. Towson (6-3) will put its four-game win streak on the line in the doubleheader against the Pirates (3-7).
The Tigers went 3-0 at the Maryland Round Robin Tournament over the weekend to extend their win streak. Courtney Wittner hit .500 in the three games and drove in a team-high five runs. Sammi DiPompo hit .400 during that stretch with two RBIs and three runs scored. The Tiger pitching staff had a strong weekend allowing just three runs in 21 innings to post a 1.00 ERA with 22 strikeouts. Dominique Ortega and Katie Lingmai both threw complete game shutouts.
On the season, Mindy Bean leads the Tigers with a .353 average while Wittner is hitting .304 with a team-high eight RBIs. Lingmai leads the pitching staff with a 2-1 record and a 0.35 ERA in 20 innings. Ortega was named the CAA Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday after her dominating performance against Mt. St. Mary's. She has a 2-1 record and 0.88 ERA on the season.
Seton Hall has won two straight heading into Wednesday's action. Katie Stilwell allowed two runs in a complete game performance against Mercer on Sunday. Kristen Kaelin is hitting .379 with 10 RBIs on the year.
Following Wednesday's action the Tigers return to action at the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational. Towson will play Hartford, Eastern Kentucky, USC-Upstate and Winston-Salem State over the course of the weekend.
