Dominique Ortega Named CAA Pitcher of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. - Dominique Ortega threw a one-hit shutout against Mt. St. Mary's to earn Colonial Athletic Association Softball Pitcher of the Week honors it was announced on Tuesday by league officials. Ortega is the second straight Tiger to earn weekly honors after Katie Lingmai was named the rookie of the week last week.

This is the second time in her career that she has received weekly honors from the conference after earning rookie of the week honors in March of last year.

Ortega had a dominating performance against Mt. St. Mary's to start a string of strong pitching performances by the Tigers over the weekend. The sophomore threw her second complete game of the season against the Mount. Ortega struck out a career-high nine batters while walking one and allowing just one hit.

For the season, Ortega is 2-1 with a 0.88 ERA. She has allowed just two earned runs in 16 innings of work for the Tigers. Ortega has recorded 12 strikeouts and walked just two during that stretch.

Ortega and the Tigers return to action on Wednesday, March 10 at 2 p.m. Towson will play its 2010 home opener as the Tigers host Seton Hall in a doubleheader.
