PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Sophomore diver Caroline Baker of Towson University finished 18th in the three-meter diving event at the 2010 NCAA Division I Zone 'A' Diving Championships at Rutgers University on Saturday afternoon.
Meanwhile, sophomore diver Lauren Ray placed 28th out of 43 competitors during the preliminaries.
"To have reached the finals in both one-meter and three-meter events is a terrific accomplishment for Caroline," Towson Diving Coach Maureen Mead said. "I am very proud of both Lauren and Caroline for performing so well in their first national-level meet. With two more years left for both of them, we will come back next year with a goal of moving into the top six, which would earn them an invite to the NCAA Championship."
Baker scored 231.65 points during the preliminaries to advance to the finals. Meanwhile, Ray scored 209.05 points in the preliminaries.
In the finals, Baker tallied 187.55 points and finished with a combined score of 419.20 points.
"I am thrilled with how Caroline and Lauren performed this weekend," Towson Coach Pat Mead said. "To handle the pressure as well as they did is outstanding. It's exciting to know we have swimmers and divers at Towson competing among the best in the nation.
"The divers' performances have set the tone for us as we get ready to leave on Tuesday for the NCAA Championships with Meredith (Budner)," Coach Mead added. "Coach Mo has done a terrific job with these young women and she should be very proud."
