FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Tigers dropped a 7-0 decision to Rutgers on Sunday morning in Florida as part of the team's spring break trip. Towson (3-7) got a strong performance from Lauren Cloonan at second singles.
The Scarlet Knights grabbed the early lead by sweeping the doubles matches. At first doubles it was Amy Zhang and Jennifer Holzberg defeating Cloonen and Andrea Samlin, 8-3. Katherine Arlak and Leonora Slatnick defeated Katie Young and Beth Daub by an 8-2 margin at second doubles. Caitlin Baker and Christine Tran clinched the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win over Aandria Carr and Caitlin White at third doubles.
In first singles action it was Zhang posting a 6-0, 6-0 win over Carr. Holzberg earned a hard fought 7-5, 6-4 win over Cloonan at second doubles. Arlak contributed a 6-4, 6-2 win over Samlin at third singles. Michelle Green posted a 6-0, 6-0 win against Daub at fourth singles. In fifth singles action, Slatnick was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Cassandra Ng. Baker wrapped up the action with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Ali Frendak at sixth singles.
Towson returns to action Monday, March 15 when the Tigers face Nova Southeastern at 10:00 a.m.
