RICHMOND, Va. – Freshman midfielder Ashley Waldron of seventh-ranked Towson University has been named as the winner of the Colonial Athletic Association Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week award for the week ending April 4, it has been announced by CAA officials.
It is the second time this season Waldron has been honored by the CAA. She earned the award on March 9 after helping Towson to a pair of wins over UMBC and Loyola.
Waldron scored three goals with five assists last week as the Tigers split their games against second-ranked Maryland and Delaware. After being held to a goal in the Tigers' 12-10 loss on Wednesday night, Waldron scored two goals with a season-high five assists in a 17-8 victory over Delaware on Saturday afternoon.
It marked the first time a Towson player recorded five assists in a game since Meggie McNamara had five assists in the Tigers' CAA semi-final win over William & Mary last year. In addition, the five assists matched a season high in the CAA.
Waldron ranks fourth on the team with 19 points this season, scoring 12 goals with seven assists.
Off to a 7-2 start, the Tigers will continue their three-game homestand on Friday night when they host 12th-ranked James Madison at Johnny Unitas® Stadium at 7 p.m.
