Banjo, Mangione Earn All-Region Honors

TOWSON, Md. - Senior midfielder Marco Mangione and freshman forward Olakunle Banjo of the Tiger men's soccer team have been named as third team selections on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Performance Subaru All-South Atlantic Region team, it has been announced by NSCAA officials.

"It is fantastic recognition for both Marco and Olakunle," Towson Coach Frank Olszewski said. "As the seventh-highest goal scoring team in the country, these two players were a big part of that accomplishment. I am certain that Marco has a future in the game like so many former Tigers and we look forward to Olakunle returning while taking another step in his development to lead a potent attack in 2011."

The second-leading scorer in the CAA with 31 points, Mangione earned first team All-Colonial Athletic Association honors after tying for the CAA lead with 12 goals. A starter in all 17 games, he also led the Tigers with seven assists and had four game-winning goals, which is tied for second in the CAA. He posted three two-goal games this season, including a two-goal effort against Georgia State in the season finale.

Honored as the CAA Co-Player of the Week on October 11, Mangione scored both goals in the Tigers' 2-0 win over Hofstra and also tallied a goal with an assist in a 4-3 loss against Drexel. He also scored both goals in the Tigers' 2-1 victory over Lehigh on September 12.

A three-year starter, Mangione ended his career with 53 points, which ranks 13th in school history. In addition, he finished his career as the 13th-leading goal scorer in Towson history with 20 goals.

A starter in 16 of 17 games this season, Banjo was tied for fourth in the CAA with 19 points, scoring seven goals with five assists. Honored as the CAA Co-Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week on September 20, he led the Tigers to a 3-2 victory over Loyola by scoring two goals. He also had the eventual game-winning goal in a 3-1 win against Longwood.

A second team All-CAA and CAA All-Rookie Team selection, Banjo scored at least one goal in five of his first eight games and also tallied a pair of assists in the Tigers' 2-2 double overtime tie against UNC Wilmington.

The Tigers finished the season with a 9-6-2 record, including a 6-0-0 mark in non-conference play.
