Welcome to the New TowsonTigers.com

To all those that are coming to this website for the first time, welcome to the new TowsonTigers.com. For those of you who are regulars, we hope you like the new look.  Many people in the athletic department have spent a lot of time and energy in changing this website. As fans of Towson University athletics, we thank them.

For those who don't know, my name is Spiro Morekas and I am a 1983 graduate of Towson. For all but three of my 51 years, I have lived within 10 miles of the Towson campus. For the past 20 years, I have been privileged to be the radio play-by-play voice of Towson University football, basketball and lacrosse.

It has been more than a job it is a passion.  In the more than 1000 games I have broadcast, I hope that not only does the passion come through, but that I can give you a clear visualization as to what is happening on the field or court of play.

My role here at Towsontigers.com is to write a blog every week. It won't be so much a play-by-play of games that have just transpired.  I'll leave that to Mat Schlissel who knows as much if not more than anyone walking the face of the earth about Towson Athletics.

Instead, I will try to give you a glimpse into the athletes and coaches who make up Towson Athletics. I will also delve into the past; there is a rich history here at Towson and for many, they may not know the stories and the players in those stories that make up that history.

We are not only embarking on a new website here at Towson, but we are embarking on a new era that I believe will lead us to heights we have never seen. As Towson Director of Athletics Mike Waddell says all the time, “It's a great time to be a Towson University Tiger.”

Coach Rob Ambrose and the Tiger football team have just started training camp as they get ready for the Morgan State Bears on September 3 at Unitas Stadium. We are fortunate to have a great schedule this year home and away. For many of us, the game on October 1 is one we never thought we would see when the Tigers take on the Maryland Terrapins at Byrd Stadium.

Will the Tigers be a big underdog? Absolutely. But, for those of us who have been around a long time and remember games at Burdick Field, playing the flagship is something we never expected to happen.

While Coach Ambrose puts the pieces together for this year's football team, new Head Coaches Pat Skerry of the men's basketball team and Shawn Nadelen of the men's lacrosse team are just starting their journeys. Both are dynamic individuals and I believe will lead both of those teams to new heights.

As for the new Towsontigers.com, we've got some great new bloggers with the addition of former Baltimore Sun writer Milton Kent and with Mat covering the beat, this site will be as good as any in the nation.

So, for the good folks that have never been here before, we welcome you to TowsonTigers.com. For the fans of Towson Athletics who have come here before, we are sure you will love the new Towsontigers.com.

Next week, I will look back at the careers of the two greatest quarterbacks in Towson football history - Dan Crowley and Sean Schaefer.
