TOWSON, Md. - After a 31-28 last-second victory over No. 14 Richmond, Towson University has moved up to 17th in The Sports Network/Fathead.com NCAA FCS College Football Weekly Poll, which was announced on Monday. The Tigers, who are now 4-1 on the season, are ranked among the Top 25 for the third consecutive week. Last week, the Tigers were ranked 25th.
The Tigers opened the season with wins over Morgan State, No. 20 Villanova and Colgate. After a loss to Maryland, the Tigers won their second straight game against a nationally-ranked team when they edged No. 14 Richmond on Saturday night, 31-28.
Towson joins No. 6 New Hampshire, No. 9 Delaware, No. 12 Maine, No. 13 James Madison, No. 16 William & Mary, No. 18 Old Dominion and No. 20 Richmond as Colonial Athletic Association teams that are ranked in the Top 25. The CAA is the first conference ever to have eight teams ranked in the NCAA FCS Top 25.
The Tigers' No. 17 national ranking matches their highest-ever ranking in NCAA FCS. On Oct. 9, 2006, the Tigers were ranked 17th in NCAA FCS with a 4-0 record.
The Tigers, who are 2-0 against Top 25 teams, visit No. 18 Old Dominion on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 3:30 p.m.
