RICHMOND, Va. - For the third time this season, freshman tailback Terrance West of nationally-ranked Towson University (5-1, 3-0) has been named as the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week. He earned the award for his performance in the Tigers' 39-35 win over Old Dominion on Saturday, Oct. 15.

In addition, West was named as the co-winner of the NCAA FCS National Freshman of the Week Award by The Sports Network.

In the Tigers' 39-35 come-from-behind win over the No. 18 Monarchs, West ran for a career high 148 yards on 16 carries and scored two touchdowns.

In the first quarter, he gave the Tigers a 7-0 lead when he scored on a 47-yard run on Towson's fifth offensive play of the game. Later in the first quarter, he broke loose for a 54-yard touchdown run, giving the Tigers a 14-7 lead with 4:14 left. In the first quarter alone, West ran for 106 yards on only three carries and scored two touchdowns.

His 148-yard, two-touchdown performance came one week after he rushed for 128 yards on 21 carries and scored four touchdowns in a 31-28 victory over Richmond. His effort against Richmond earned him his second CAA Rookie of the Week award.

West was also honored as the CAA Rookie of the Week after scoring the first two touchdowns of his career in a 31-10 win over No. 20 Villanova on Sept. 10.

"Terrance's efforts once again contributed to a very successful offensive performance and win," says Towson Coach Rob Ambrose.  "We are looking forward to his continued growth."

The Tigers' leading rusher, West has run for 450 yards on 70 carries in six games. Averaging 75.0 yards per game, he is ranked seventh in the CAA in rushing. Averaging 6.4 yards per carry, he is second in the CAA.

West has helped the Tigers average 226.5 rushing yards per game, second in the CAA.

By scoring two touchdowns at Old Dominion, West now has 11 TD's on the season. He leads the CAA in scoring and is ranked third in NCAA FCS.

An All-Metro performer at Baltimore's Northwestern High School, West accumulated more than 4,700 total yards in his high school career. After a year at Fork Union Military Academy, he enrolled at Towson University during the spring semester and was one of the Tigers' most impressive newcomers in the 2011 Tiger Bowl.

The Tigers, who have been ranked among the NCAA FCS Top 25 the last four weeks, are now 5-1 on the season and 3-0 in the CAA. The Tigers travel to William & Mary on Saturday afternoon.
