Sekerak Named CAA Defensive Player of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. - For the second straight week, Towson University's Paige Sekerak was named as the Colonial Athletic Association Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week. Sekerak has helped the Tigers to four straight victories with a 20-7 record and a 7-3 CAA mark.

"Paige is steadily becoming more and more comfortable in her role as our libero," said Towson Coach Bruce Atkinson. "She is doing a nice job keeping our offense in system."

Sekerak led the Tigers to a 3-0 win over Delaware on Saturday evening. The win allowed the Tigers to complete the season sweep of the Blue Hens and gave the team their 20th win of the season. It is the first time since 2006 that Towson has recorded 20 wins in a season.

Sekerak had 18 digs in the win over Delaware to provide a solid presence on the backline for the Tiger defense. She added two assists and two service aces.

Sekerak leads the Tigers with 410 digs on the season and 28 service aces. Her 410 digs rank 12th in single-season history at Towson and her 4.46 digs per set are ranked third in the CAA.

Sekerak and the Tigers return home this weekend to host a pair of crucial CAA matches as the season enters its final two weeks. Towson hosts Northeastern on Friday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. in the Towson Center before facing Hofstra on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.
