TOWSON, Md. – Towson fans will have a chance to listen to all 31 Tiger men's basketball games on the radio in 2011-12 as WBAL and WNST announced their broadcast schedules for the upcoming season.
WBAL-AM (1090) will air eight games on the year with Gerry Sandusky handling play-by-play duties and Towson coaching legend Vince Angotti providing color commentary. Fans can listen to the balance of the schedule on WNST-AM (1570) with Spiro Morekas and Angotti on the call.
“We are thrilled that WBAL and WNST will be covering our program this year,” said first-year Tiger head coach Pat Skerry. “It's an important partnership for us as we develop and build our Tiger brand of basketball. If you can't be there in person, do the next best thing and tune in to catch all the action.”
Sandusky, who serves as the sports director at WBAL-TV, is also the play-by-play broadcaster for the Baltimore Ravens. In addition to men's basketball, Morekas, a 20-plus year veteran as the voice of Towson athletics, serves as the radio play-by-play commentator for Tiger football and men's lacrosse.
Angotti will join both Sandusky and Morekas to provide color commentary for every game. Angotti, a former Towson men's basketball coach, is the winningest coach in Tiger program history.
WNST will also air four women's basketball games this as part of its coverage of Towson Athletics, which also includes football and men and women's lacrosse. The women's basketball radio schedule will be announced shortly.
“The partnerships we have forged with WBAL-AM and WNST-AM are the cornerstones to helping Towson Athletics and its basketball program to build our brand all across the Greater Baltimore area and the Mid-Atlantic,” said Director of Athletics Mike Waddell. “As our program grows, so will these partnership as we provide our fans with the best coverage in the city.”
In addition to every Tiger men's basketball game being heard on the radio airwaves, fans can also catch up with Coach Skerry during his two weekly radio appearances.
The half-hour Pat Skerry Show, hosted by Brett Hollander, will air on WBAL-AM starting next Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 8 p.m. A full schedule of the Pat Skerry Show can be found below.
Additionally, Skerry will be making a weekly appearance on Tiger Talk, which is broadcast on WNST-AM every Thursday from 6-7 p.m. Skerry will join the show, which is held at Bateman's Bistro on York Road, starting Thursday, Nov. 17.
