RICHMOND, Va. - Senior guard Krystal Parnell of the Tiger women's basketball team was named as the Colonial Athletic Association Co-Player of the Week on Monday. Parnell shared Player of the Week honors with Taleia Moton of George Mason.
Parnell averaged 19 points and nine rebounds while leading the Tigers (4-1) to wins over Mount St. Mary's and UMBC.
"Krystal's week is just a culmination of her hard work and leadership she has displayed so far this season," said Towson Coach Joe Mathews. "She continues to get better every day in so many ways."
Parnell started her week with 18 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals in the win over The Mount. She had nine points and four rebounds in the second half to help the Tigers complete their comeback after trailing by nine at the half.
The 5-5 point guard followed that up with a stellar performance against UMBC, recording her second career "double-double." Parnell had a season-high 20 points and a career-high 11 rebounds while adding eight assists and two steals. 16 of Parnell's 20 points came in the second half to hold off a late charge by the Retrievers. Parnell grabbed 10 defensive rebounds in the game.
She finished the week shooting 63.6% from the floor and 72.7% from the foul line. For the season, Parnell leads the team as she is averaging 11.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. She has a team-high 21 assists this season.
Parnell and the Tigers will be back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 30 when they play at No. 2 Connecticut.
