TOWSON, Md. - The 2011 calendar year was probably the most important year in Tiger athletics since 1991 when the Towson men's basketball, men's lacrosse and baseball teams all went to the NCAA Tournament. It was also the same year men's lacrosse went all the way to the NCAA Championship Game.
There were many significant moments that occurred in 2011. Here are some of the highlights on and off the field, court, mats and pool.

Jan. 16: First-year gymnastics coach Vicki Chliszczyk wins in her Towson debut as the Tigers earn victories over Brown and Bridgeport.
Feb. 19: Senior Ashley Adams sets 60-meter indoor hurdle record as the Tiger track and field team competes at a meet at Princeton.
Feb. 20: The Tiger gymnastics team wins the 26th annual Shelli Calloway Memorial Invitational by edging Temple and Penn.
Feb. 26: Led by senior Meredith Budner, the Tiger women's swimming and diving team wins its fourth consecutive Colonial Athletic Association championship, becoming the second team in CAA history to win four straight league titles.
Mar. 6: Ashley Adams captures the pentathlon title at the ECAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, leading the Tigers to a 15th place team finish.
Mar. 17: Senior Meredith Budner finishes in second place in the 500-yard freestyle at the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, earning All-America honors.
Mar. 19: Led by senior Meredith Budner and junior Cari Czarnecki, the Tigers finished in 21st place at the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming and Diving Championship. Budner finished as the national runner-up in the 1650-yard freestyle to earn All-America notice while Czarnecki won the consolation final in the 200-yard butterfly and received honorable mention All-America notice.
Mar. 19: The Tiger gymnastics team finished in third place at the ECAC Championship at Brown University.
Mar. 19: The Tiger gymnastics team also dominated the ECAC yearly awards as Vicki Chliszczyk, the Tigers' first-year coach, was named as the ECAC Coach of the Year while Alexa Davis was named as the league's Rookie of the Year. In addition, junior Avis Hixon was selected as the ECAC Specialist of the Year while senior Megan Wooden was one of four recipients of the ECAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor.
Mar. 19: Led by three goals from sophomore attackman Matt Hughes, the Tiger men's lacrosse team upset fifth-ranked Stony Brook, 9-8, at Johnny Unitas® Stadium. It marked the Tigers' first win over a top five opponent since the 1996 season.
Mar. 31: Former Tiger outfielder and pitcher Casper Wells makes the Detroit Tigers' opening day roster. Wells was a two-time All-CAA selection for Coach Mike Gottlieb and the Tigers.
Apr. 5: Pat Skerry is named as the Tigers' head men's basketball coach. He became the sixth man to head the basketball program since the Tigers went Division I in 1979.
Apr. 15: Led by senior Jess Dunn, the Tiger women's lacrosse team overcame a 4-0 first half deficit and earned a 10-9 victory over ninth-ranked James Madison in Harrisonburg, Va.
Apr. 24: Freshman Rhiannon Coogle scored four goals, including the game-winner with 39 seconds left in overtime, to lead the Tiger women's lacrosse team to the CAA regular season title after a 12-11 victory over William & Mary.
Apr. 30: Playing in his final college game, senior Peter Mezzanotte scored two goals with two assists and also set a school record by causing eight turnovers as the Tiger men's lacrosse team ended the season with a 15-2 victory over Saint Joseph's at Unitas Stadium.
May 4: After leading the Tigers to their first Colonial Athletic Association regular season title, Coach Sonia LaMonica was named as the CAA Women's Lacrosse Coach of the Year. In addition, the Tigers had eight players named to the All-CAA teams, including four first team selections.
May 8: Airielle Dawson captures the PGA of America Minority Collegiate Golf Championship while shooting a career-low 72 in the final round.
May 10: A public groundbreaking ceremony for the new $68 million state-of-the-art 5,200-seat Tiger Arena was held with a ceremonial dig to signal the beginning of construction of the facility, which is expected to open in Spring, 2013.
May 10: A trio of Tiger softball players earned All-Colonial Athletic Association honors at the banquet to kick-off the CAA Softball Championship. Senior Rachel Miller and junior Erika Stasch earned first team All-CAA honors while sophomore Katie Lingmai was one of two pitchers to receive second team notice.
May 11: After he participated in the groundbreaking for Tiger Arena, former Towson basketball star and current San Antonio Spurs guard Gary Neal was named to the NBA's All-Rookie first team. He became the second undrafted rookie in the history of the NBA to earn this honor.
May 25: Shortstop Nick Natoli of the Tiger baseball team was named as the CAA Defensive Player of the Year. In addition, the Tigers had five players named to the All-CAA teams.
May 29: After spending seven years as the Tigers' defensive coordinator and associate head coach, Shawn Nadelen was named as the Tigers' head men's lacrosse coach. He replaced Tony Seaman, who resigned on May 9 after 13 years as the Tigers' leader.
June 7: Senior pitcher Charlie Cononie was selected in the 24th round by the Tampa Bay Rays in the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.
July 12: Redshirt freshman midfielder Robby Zoppo was one of 23 players selected to the USA U-19 team.
July 27: During CAA Football Media Day at M&T Bank Stadium, junior defensive end Frank Beltre was named to the Preseason All-CAA team. Towson was also picked to finish last in the pre-season poll selected by the 11 head coaches and media relations personnel.
Aug. 20: The Tiger women's soccer team opened its 20th season by earning a 2-0 victory over local rival Loyola, marking Towson's first-ever win over the Greyhounds.
Sept. 3: Sophomore quarterback Grant Enders passed for 197 yards and three touchdowns as the Tigers earned a 42-3 victory over Morgan State in the season opener for both teams in front of nearly 10,000 fans at Unitas Stadium.
Sept. 3: Led by tournament MVP Aubrey Kirven, the Tiger volleyball team claimed the Battle of Baltimore championship after defeating Loyola, UMBC, Morgan State and Coppin State during the two-day tournament.
Sept. 10: The Tiger football team snapped a 14-game losing streak to CAA opponents with a 31-10 win over 20th-ranked Villanova. It also marked the Tigers' first win over a nationally-ranked opponent since 2007.
Sept. 26: After improving to 3-0 with a Homecoming victory over Colgate, the Tiger football team is ranked 23rd in the Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS Poll. It marked the first time the Tigers were ranked since Sept. 10, 2007.
Oct. 1: In the first-ever meeting in football with state rival Maryland, the Tigers dropped their first game of the season, a 28-3 setback against the Terrapins.
Oct. 15: In one of the biggest comebacks in school history, the Tiger football team came back from 11 points down in the final minutes to upend Old Dominion in Norfolk, 39-35. On fourth-and-29 with 1:07 left, sophomore quarterback Grant Enders hit junior wide receiver Tom Ryan at the ODU 30-yard line. Ryan broke a tackle, followed two blocks and carried two more defenders into the end zone for the game-winning score.
Oct. 30: The Tiger field hockey team upset No. 14 Northeastern with a 1-0 victory on Senior Day at Unitas Stadium, earning Towson's first CAA Tournament berth since 2008.
Nov. 2: Junior forward Cheyenne Skidmore was named to the All-CAA women's soccer third team and freshman defender Sofia Read was named to the CAA All-Rookie team.
Nov. 4: Senior forward Katie DeFilippo of the field hockey team became the third Towson player to earn first-team All-CAA honors.
Nov. 5: Led by freshman Terrance West, the No. 14 Tiger football team bounced back from a loss against Delaware to defeat Maine by a 40-30 margin at Alfond Stadium. West ran for 183 yards and three
touchdowns to increase his FCS-leading season total to 21.
Nov. 12: The Tiger football team defeats No. 12 New Hampshire by 56-42 on Senior Day at Unitas Stadium, earning Towson's first-ever win over UNH in eight meetings. The Tigers moved to 8-2 overall for the first time since the 1994 season and all but clinched an at-large berth in the FCS playoffs.
Nov. 12: With a four-set victory over James Madison, the Tiger volleyball team finishes the regular season with a 23-8 overall record and a 10-4 mark in the CAA to earn the third seed in the CAA Tournament.
Nov. 17: Tiger volleyball coach Bruce Atkinson was named as CAA Coach of the Year and sophomore outside hitter Katy Buck was selected as the CAA Player of the Year. Buck joined Liz Goubeaux (2004) as the only Tiger volleyball student athletes to be named as the CAA Player of the Year.
Nov. 19: With a 28-17 comeback victory over Rhode Island, the Tiger football team clinches its first CAA championship and the automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. It marked the first time that in college football history that a team had made the Division III, II and FCS (I-AA) playoffs.
Nov. 19: Katie Ogden ends her collegiate cross country career by running eighth to lead the Tigers to a third place finish in the 2011 ECAC University Division championship out of 22 teams.
Nov: 21: After leading the Tigers to the CAA championship, Coach Rob Ambrose was named as the CAA Football Coach of the Year while freshman Terrance West was honored as the CAA's Offensive Rookie of the Year. In addition, seven Tigers earned All-CAA honors.
Nov. 26: Playing in front of President of the United States Barack Obama and the First Family, the Tiger men's basketball team dropped its home opener with a 66-46 setback against Oregon State in front of over 3,000 fans at the Towson Center. The crowd also included actor Bill Murray, the father of Towson assistant coach Luke Murray. The football team was also honored at halftime by receiving its first CAA Championship trophy and shared a moment on the court with President Obama.
Nov. 28: Senior point guard Krystal Parnell was named as a co-recipient of the CAA women's basketball Player of the Week award. She averaged 19 points and 9 rebounds in leading the Tigers to wins over Mt. St. Mary's and UMBC.
Dec. 3: In front of a capacity crowd of 11,196 fans at Unitas Stadium, the Tigers dropped a heart-breaking 40-38 decision against Lehigh in the second round of the NCAA FCS playoffs. The Tigers lost on a safety when sophomore quarterback Grant Enders was tackled in the end zone for a safety with 5:14 left in the game.
Dec. 4: The Tiger women's basketball team defeated two-time defending CAA champion James Madison for just the third time in school history with a 65-58 victory at the Towson Center.
Dec. 20: The Tiger football team announces its 2012 schedule, which will feature a pair of FBS opponents. After playing at Kent State on Sept. 1 meeting, the Tigers will play a Sept. 29 contest at LSU.
Dec. 27: New Orleans Saints offensive tackle and former Towson great Jermon Bushrod earns his first Pro Bowl berth.
Dec. 29: Senior guard Krystal Parnell hits a driving bank shot with no time left to give the Tiger women's basketball team a come-from-behind 56-54 win over Charles Street rival Loyola. Towson finished its non-conference schedule and 2011 portion of the season with a 10-2 overall record.
(Honorable mention goes to the temporary loss of two beloved landmarks in a fire - CVP (Charles Village Pub) on Jan. 30 and the Mt. Washington Tavern on Oct. 31.)
