TOWSON, Md. – The
National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced that Towson University
has received the Team Academic Award for the 2010-11 season, demonstrating the
team's commitment both on and off the field.
"This
is a fantastic accomplishment for the team and one that we have also received
in the past,” Coach Frank Olszewski
said. “We truly prioritize the term "student" in student-athlete
both in our program and at Towson. It takes a great deal of effort and
dedication from all involved to receive this national recognition and one
that we take particular pride in."
The
Tigers were one of 67 programs in NCAA Division I to receive the award which is given
to the schools whose soccer program posts a team grade point average of 3.0 or
higher.
The Tigers had 10 student-athletes post 3.0's
or better during the fall while 14 members of the team earned at least a 3.0
during the spring term.
