Former Towson men's soccer player Marco
Mangione has signed a professional contract to play in Portugal.
Mangione will suit up for GD Tourizense of the Segunda Divisao.
The team has 20 games remaining this season.
A two-week tryout session was held after which Mangione was
offered the contract.
“Marco is a talented player with big potential,” Pedro Goncalves
of Sport Consult Portugal Agency said in a statement. “He really impressed us
during the first week of training. We hope he will develop into a great
professional player.”
Mangione, a midfielder who played for the Tigers from
2007-10, scored 20 career goals in 64 games. He ranked second in the Colonial
Athletic Association during his senior season with 31 points, earning first
team all-CAA honors. He finished his career with eight game-winning goals and
was a perfect 5-for-5 in penalty kicks.
