TOWSON, Md. –
Towson will travel to the University of Delaware Saturday to take part in the
Thomson Invitational meet. The Tigers are coming off of a fifth-place finish in
the Gulden Invitational at Bucknell Jan. 21. The Tigers scored 59 points in the
meet.
Towson's Shianna
Smith and Shannel Shivers helped
the Tigers score big points at the Gulden Invitational, as each posted a strong
result in the weight throw event. Smith's throw of 17.44 meters won the event,
while Shivers came in fourth place with a 15.87 meter toss.
The duo, along with Melissa
Shirley, also placed in the top-10 in the shot-put. Shivers placed fifth
with a 12.62-meter throw, Smith had a 12.09-meter result to finish in eighth
and Shirley came in ninth place with an 11.59-meter outcome.
Katie Salke
posted a pair of top-three finishes in the meet for the Tigers. Salke finished
second in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 9.06 seconds. Salke
was also third in the triple jump, finishing the event with an 11.10-meter result.
Jade Johnson also finished 10th in the triple jump for Towson.
Following the Thomson Invitational, Towson will have nearly
a two week break before heading to the Lafayette/Rider Invitational in New
York.f
