TOWSON, Md. –
Towson University has announced that three student-athletes have signed
National Letters of Intent to compete on the Tiger track and field team in
2012-13 for Head Coach Roger Erricker.
“I'm very excited,” Erricker said. “This has the potential
to be our strongest track and field signing class ever.”
Emerald Vickers
(Babylon H.S./Babylon, N.Y.), Kelsey
Fiddes (Mercy H.S./Baltimore, Md.) and Ashleigh
Stallings (Maryvale Preparatory School/Reisterstown, Md.) complete the
class of newest Tigers.
Vickers has a great deal of upside in the high jump,
according to Erricker, and was a multisport athlete in high school. Vickers'
best jump to date is 5' 4.25”.
“Now that she can just focus on track in college, I think she
is going to get better and better,” Erricker said.
Stallings will be a multi-event participant for Towson,
competing in the heptathlon and pentathlon. Her best event is the discus throw.
She won the event at the IAAM Championships.
“She's going to be really good for us,” Erricker said. “She
will be very busy for us but that's what she wants to do.”
Fiddes will be a sprinter for the Tigers. She was the IAAM indoor champion in the
55-meter event. Her best time in that event to date is 7.44 seconds.
“She has a tremendous upside,” Erricker said. “She is going
to be really good. She's not afraid and will really help us across the board in
the sprints.”
