TOWSON,
Md. – Male members of the Tiger Athletic Department participated in the
“Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event sponsored by the Towson University
Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Committee on Wednesday afternoon.
“Walk a Mile In Her Shoes®” is a men's march to stop rape, sexual assault and gender violence.
The
event featured speakers explaining why it important to take a stand
against violence and a one-mile walk through the middle of the Towson
campus to help raise awarness.
Student-athletes
and coaches from the men's soccer team, the football team and the men's
basketball team participated, along with the male members of the
volleyball and women's basketball coaching staffs.
"I am
very pleased with the participation and support from our Athletics
Department today for the Walk-A-Mile event,” said Antwaine Smith,
Director of the Total Tiger Program. “With the value that is placed on
Sports as entertainment in our culture, it is very powerful and
impactful when an Athletics department (Administration, Coaches and
student-athletes) take a stand against a social justice issue such as
men's violence against women."
Smith added, “After all...these are our loved ones and we want to protect them."
