TOWSON, Md. – After watching the Towson University football team play through a 120-play scrimmage, Coach Rob Ambrose had mixed feelings.

“It was a long scrimmage and I saw a lot of good stuff,” said Ambrose. “Some other stuff wasn't so good. It was great to get some people a lot of work. We're still trying to find some guys to fill certain spots, especially on offense.”

Ambrose added, “Defense is always ahead of the offense at this time of the year, especially when you're trying to fill some spots on the offense. To have an effective offense, you need 11 guys pulling in the same direction. When you are experimenting, that won't happen.”

During the scrimmage, the Tiger defense forced four turnovers, including interceptions by cornerbacks Jordan Love and Corey Ford.

“Four turnovers in 120 plays aren't terrible,” admitted Ambrose. “But, I'm not happy until we have no turnovers.”

A pair of “red shirt” freshmen, Connor Frazier and Price Litton, split time at quarterback during the scrimmage.

“This was a great chance to look at both of them,” explained Ambrose. “We held Grant Enders out of this scrimmage so we could see what they can do. Both of them are making strides and they are going to keep getting better.”

Coach Ambrose praised senior safety Jordan Dangerfield for the leadership he has shown during the Spring. A first team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection last year, Dangerfield has embraced his position on the team.

“Jordan has always been a leader by example,” Ambrose added. “Now, he understands that he needs to be a vocal leader as well. His development as a leader has been good to watch this spring.”

The Tiger offense, which averaged 34.2 points per game last season, returns nine starters. However, the loss of All-CAA right tackle Henry Glackin and fullback Tyler Wharton to graduation has created voids on the offense.

“The competition has been very intense for both spots,” admits Ambrose. “The great thing is that we have bigger, faster players competing for these spots than we've had in the past. I am sure we come up with good people to fill those spots.”

The Tigers will resume their spring schedule on Tuesday morning at 5 a.m. It will be their tenth practice of the spring.
