TOWSON, Md. – As the Tiger Club continues to move towards
the 2016 strategic goal of raising $5,000,000, Director of Athletics Mike Waddell is pleased to report a gift of $90,000 has been pledged to support the
Towson University men's golf program. It is the largest gift in the
history of Towson golf.
The gift pledged by Whiting-Turner Contracting Company was
facilitated by Donald C. Fry, Honorary Chairperson of the Tiger Club Executive
Board.
“This is an exciting time for Towson University Athletics
and it's encouraging to know that sentiment has spread throughout the business
community as well,” said Fry, who is also president and CEO of the Greater
Baltimore Committee (GBC).
“Support through private contributions is critical to Towson
Athletics achieving the priorities outlined in our 2016 Strategic Plan and we
truly appreciate the efforts of our community leaders like Don Fry, the head of
our Tiger Club Board, to bring more people into the fold,” said Waddell.
“The support of Whiting-Turner Contracting Company assists us in reaching our
goals and helping Towson become a great success story of higher education.”
The Towson men's golf team just finished a weekend of
competition at the 36th annual Rutherford Intercollegiate held at State
College, Pa. The Tigers have just one remaining tournament prior to the
Colonial Athletic Association Championship at the end of this month.
“I am honored and incredibly grateful for this exceptional
gift from Whiting-Turner Contracting Company and for Don's role in making this
happen,” said Coach Brian Yaniger. “I am also very excited by this gift
as it creates more opportunities for our players to be successful in the
classroom and on the course.
