BALTIMORE, Md. - The Tigers set a school record in the 1,600-meter sprint relay Saturday en route to winning the Loyola-Johns Hopkins Invitational by recording 274.50 points. Johns Hopkins finished second with 129 points, while Christopher Newport came in third with 104.50 points. 

The quartet of Desiree Vaughn, Kiera Joyner, Evan Campbell and Kara Bucaro finished with a time of 4:08.83, winning the event by over 15 seconds. 

Throwers Alexis Appezzato and Shianna Smith each won events for the Tigers. Smith won the hammer throw with a toss of 164' 10", while the freshman Appezzato impressed Towson Head Coach Roger Erricker by winning the javelin with a 133' 2" result.

"She's throwing really well," Erricker said. "She was an elite thrower in high school and she has not been the typical wide-eyed freshman."

Campbell and fellow jumper Vanessa Pierre also had good results in the meet. Campbell won the high jump with a 5' 03" mark and Pierre finished second in the long jump with a 16' 8.75" result. 

"She has kind of been in a slump, but Vanessa's jump was a nice rebound for her," Erricker said.

Kaylin Gilmartin-Donohue and Katlyn Dillow had top three finishes in the 1,500-meter run for the Tigers. Gilmartin-Donohue won the event in 4:43.15, while Dillow finished third in 4:47.35.

Erricker was highly aware of what it meant to win the local meet with plenty of school pride on the line. 

"It was the battle of Charles Street, and you have to win the battle of Charles Street," he said. "It's nice to have a win over some local schools."
