TOWSON, Md. - With Tiger Bowl II only days away, the Tiger football team held its 12th practice of the Spring season on Tuesday morning.
Konstantinos Kosmakos, the Tigers' Outside Linebackers Coach, is very aware that the players are excited about Tiger Bowl II.
"Tiger Bowl II is a great opportunity for players to show what they've learned this spring," says Kosmakos, a fifth-year member of the staff. "It's also an opportunity for the players to play in front of their family and friends. It's also good preparation playing in front of a crowd. It teaches the players to focus."
As the Tigers' outside linebackers coach, Kosmakos is excited about some of the young talent the Tigers have at that position.
"It's great to see how the players we've recruited are performing," he says. "They've been doing a good job and they've gotten better."
Although Kosmakos stresses that the competition for playing time is intense, he has been pleased by the potential that Sydnor Holt and Greg Grant have shown.
"These are two players with promising futures," he says. "They have the physical ability. They just have to learn their positions."
Junior Ben Chroniger, a special teams standout, has also stepped up this Spring. Kosmakos says, "Ben has come a long way and he is becoming someone we can count on."
With senior Alexander DiSanzo moving to inside linebacker, sophomore Trey Jackson is competing for a starting role. He saw plenty of action as a red-shirt freshman and has shown improvement.
"Trey has shown flashes of being a very good linebacker," says Kosmakos. "Now he needs consistency."
The Tigers will practice on Thursday morning and Friday morning before they play in Tiger Bowl II on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
