Junior Midfielder

I usually try to avoid clichés, but coming off a tough loss to Penn State we current sit 2-2 in the CAA and hold our fate of a CAA tournament berth in our own hands. This addition of “From the Faceoff X” will highlight individual performances from the Penn State game, we'll get to know another Tiger senior, and we'll take a look ahead towards this weekend’s festivities.

On the field:
As repetitious as it is, junior goalie Andrew Wascavage continues to perform at a high level. Saturday night, Wascavage matched his career-high of 17 saves, nine of which came in the first half to keep it a close game.

As competitive as our schedule is, solid play in the cage continues to keep us in games. Big saves early help our team simmer any momentum that our opposition gains in the beginning of the game.

Another player that continues to impress is senior captain John Kenyon. Despite trailing late in the game, Kenyon's tough defense and hard checks turned up a career-high four caused turnovers.

Kenyon's big night against the Nittany Lions placed him sixth all-time in Towson men’s lacrosse history in caused turnovers with 36. Getting the ball back late in the game has allowed our offense to scored late goals that have won us games in the past.

In his first action of the season, freshman midfielder Luke Pellizzi came in during the second half and brought a spark of much needed energy at the face-off X. Pellizzi may not have won the initial clamp, but continued to fight against Penn State’s dominant faceoff personnel.

This proves testament to the amount of talent that sits on our bench.

Our guys, from top to bottom, are prepared and ready to go when their numbers are called.

Off the field:

This week’s section of “Off the field” contains a rapid fire question and answer session with senior defenseman Sean Sheehe.

1.            Q: You just won Mega Millions, what is your first purchase?

A: Scooters for the whole lacrosse team. Except Sean Maguire.

2.            Q: If you were caught singing in the shower, which song would it likely be?

A: Say a little prayer for you.

3.            Q: If you had to choose a member of the coaching staff to take on

a vacation, which would it be and where?

A: Coach Nadelen because if things were to go south and we were in a survival situation I am sure he could nurse me back to health with nothing but his whistle and the hatchet that he always has on him.

4.            Q: If you could play another position on the lacrosse field, what

would it be and why?

A: I would like to play defensive midfield because if Alec (Jernstedt) can do it, I probably can too.

5.            Q: If you could choose one super power, what would it be?

A: I would like to be able to teleport. Not a huge fan of flying so I’d say teleporting is second best.

6.            Q: If you could pick one Tiger lacrosse alumni to fight in a cage

match, who would it be?

A: I’d like to square up with Matt Vetter '10. I have seen his moves and I think I can take him.

7.            Q: If you had a time machine, when/where would you go?

A: I would travel back to the times of the Vikings, I think I would fit in well.

8.            Q: What is your favorite fast food restaurant and item on the menu?

A: Q’doba. Chicken burrito with steak, black beans, queso and the hottest hot sauce they have.

9.          Q: Suppose you were to be reincarnated as an animal of your

choice, what would it be and why?

A: I'd like to think I would be a duck. They can fly, swim and walk on land. They have the best gig of all the animals.

A look ahead:
Coming into town this Saturday are the Drexel Dragons. Drexel is a talented team at every position of the field; most notably in cage.

Standing at 6’2’’ 270lbs, their keeper saves just over 52% of shots faced.

We continue to prepare as we move forward through the week. Faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Johnny Unitas Stadium.

This is a big weekend for Towson sports as the defending CAA champions suit up for their spring football game scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at “The U”. After talking with a number of the players, they have been working hard this spring and are eager to play. Hope to see you all there.

Until next week, fight on Tigers!
