PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Select members of the Tiger track and field team competed in the 118th Penn Relays Thursday at Franklin Field in Philadelphia. The meet is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious in the world.

In the 4x100 relay, Towson's Evan Campbell, sophomores Desiree Vaughn,  Kiera Joyner and Maya Hinton posted a time of 48.39, over two-tenths of a second faster the quartet's result at Bucknell a week ago. They finished 46th out of 84 competing teams.It was the fastest time of the season for Towson in the 4x100 event.

Freshman standout Alexis Appezzato threw the javelin and finished in 12th place out of 29 participants with a result of 128' 4".

Junior Ashley Dabney and the sophomore Campbell both competed in the high jump and cleared the 5' 3” height for the Tigers.

Running in the eighth heat of the 4x400 relay, the Towson contingent of Campbell, freshman Emily Wenger, Shemika Martin and Leslie Miles recorded a time of 3:56.09 and placed 59th. That time was also the fastest of the year in the event for the Tigers.

"It ended up being a pretty good day for us," Towson Head Coach Roger Erricker said. "We would've like to do a little bit better in the field events, but we ended the day on a good note and I think the girls gained valuable experience."

The Tigers will next compete in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship Meet on May 4-5.
