BOSTON, Mass. - Hoping to snap a three-game losing streak and improve their chances of earning a berth in the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament, the Tigers (20-22, 10-8) will face Northeastern (14-21, 4-14) in an important three-game CAA series at Friedman Diamond this weekend.
Towson and Northeastern will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 noon before closing out the series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. With 12 CAA games remaining on the schedule, the Tigers are fifth in the CAA with a 10-8 record. The top six teams earn a berth to the CAA Tournament in late May.
The Tigers, who have been struggling offensively in recent games, are led by freshman Peter Bowles, who is hitting .346 with two home runs and 22 runs batted in.
Junior catcher Andrew Parker has been one of the Tigers' top hitters in CAA games. He is hitting .305 with four homers and 13 RBI's in CAA contests. Junior third baseman Zach Fisher is batting .327 in CAA games while sophomore Kurt Wertz has a .322 batting mark in CAA games.
Junior righthander Michael Trionfo leads the Tiger pitching staff with a 6-2 record and a 3.29 E.R.A. Senior righthander Tyler Austin leads the CAA with 22 appearances. He has a 2-2 record with a 4.24 E.R.A. and three saves. Austin became the Tigers' career leader with 180 strikeouts on Tuesday.
Senior lefthander Andrew Leenhouts and junior lefthander Kevin Ferguson lead the Huskies' pitching staff. Leenhouts has a 3-3 record and a 4.34 E.R.A. while Ferguson is 4-3 with a 3.52 E.R.A.
Sophomore outfielder Aaron Barbosa is one of the Huskies' leading hitters with a .331 batting average while freshman Jason Vosler is batting .328 with six home runs and 36 RBI's.
