Zach Fisher Named To District II All-Academic Team

TOWSON, Md. – Junior third baseman Zach Fisher of Towson University has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America® District II All-Academic baseball team and will be a candidate for Academic All-America® honors.

The Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Baseball team is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and will be announced on June 1.

An Economics major with a 3.93 G.P.A., Fisher has been the Tigers’ regular third baseman this season. A transfer from the University of Maryland, he has appeared in 40 games and started 35 times. He is the Tigers’ third-leading hitter with a .283 batting average. He has six doubles, two triples and one home run with 17 runs batted in. The team leader with eight sacrifice bunts, he is second on the team with 19 walks. He has scored 13 runs.

Fisher, who is batting .305 in Colonial Athletic Association games, has nine multi-hit games, including one three-hit contest. An excellent defensive third baseman, he has a .961 fielding percentage with only five errors in 127 fielding chances. He has also been part of 11 double plays.

Fisher is seeking to become the sixth Tiger baseball player to earn Academic All-America® honors since 1996. In the last 16 years, designated hitter James Vallillo (1996), infielder Jason Rummel (1999), outfielder Gregg Davies (2002), catcher Ryan Schreiter (2007) and pitcher Jon Dupski (2008) have been named as members of the Academic All-America® baseball team.

Fisher is joined on the District II All-Academic team by pitchers Pat Christensen of LaSalle and Brett Harman of Maryland, catcher Adam Kammier of LaSalle and infielders Kyle Convissar of Maryland, Ivan Hartle of Western Kentucky and Travis isaak of Murray State.

Outfielders Nick Duff of Morehead State, Paul Ritzheimer of Murray State and Jamie Rosenkranz of Monmouth join designated hitter Anthony DeFabio of Pittsburgh to complete the District II All-Academic team.
