PRINCETON, N.J. - Two of the six Towson University qualifiers for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships competed Friday in the meet's opening events with solid performances as the Tigers look ahead to Saturday.

Graduate student Katie Ogden competed in the last event of her career Friday, posting an excellent time of 36:37.39 and finishing 12th in the 10,000-meter run. Ogden, Towson's school record-holder in the event, participated in the 10K for the second straight week after a third place finish at the Colonial Athletic Championships last weekend.

"She hung in there and she was knocking out the laps and doing a great job," Towson Head Coach Roger Erricker said. "I think we can safely say that she's the best long distance runner ever to go to Towson."

Junior Jessica Cooke also entered in the same event for consecutive weeks, competing in the heptathlon Friday. Through four of seven events, Cooke is in 14th place with 2,447 points. The event concludes Saturday.

"She has two good events to start off tomorrow," Erricker said. "She was on an emotional high last week and this is a good experience for her."

Along with Cooke on Saturday, senior Shianna Smith, sophomore Evan Campbell and freshmen Emily Wenger and Alexis Appezzato will also compete at Princeton. The meet's second day begins at 9:00 a.m.
