RICHMOND, Va. – Junior righthander Michael Trionfo and freshman first baseman Brendan Butler of Towson University have been named as second team selections on the All-Colonial Athletic Association baseball team, it has been announced by CAA officials.

The CAA announced their all-conference baseball teams at the CAA awards banquet in Harrionsburg, Va. on Tuesday night. The banquet was held in conjunction with the CAA Tournament which gets underway at Veterans' Memorial Park on Wednesday afternoon.

The Tigers, who are seeded sixth with a 26-29 overall record and a 15-15 CAA mark, play third-seeded Delaware (27-25, 17-13) in a first round game at 3:30 on Wednesday.

Trionfo, who leads the CAA in victories, earned All-CAA honors for the first time. He leads CAA with a 10-3 record and ranks sixth in the CAA with a 3.24 E.R.A.

A three-time selection as the CAA Pitcher of the Week, he was the only pitcher to be honored as the CAA Pitcher of the Week three times.

Trionfo, who was honored on March 26 , April 1 and May 21, led the Tigers into the CAA playoffs over this past weekend. With the Tigers needing to sweep a three-game series from James Madison, Trionfo won two games.

By earning his CAA-leading 10th win of the season in the regular season finale, Trionfo broke the school record for wins in a season. He tied the mark set by Jay Eck in 1988 and matched by Mike Vota in 1995 when he beat the Dukes last Thursday.

In 77.2 innings of work, he has allowed 28 earned runs on 78 hits with 29 walks and 51 strikeouts. In CAA action, he has an 8-3 record with a 3.14 E.R.A. He now has a career record of 16-14.

One of only two freshmen named to the All-CAA team, Butler earned second team honors as utility player. He saw action in 50 games and made 49 starts. He saw action at first base, third base and in the outfield.

The Tigers' second-leading hitter with a .300 batting average, he led the team with 35 runs scored, 51 base hits, 33 runs batted in, and 14 stolen bases. Butler also set a school record when he was hit by a pitch 20 times, breaking the record set by Scott Bacon in 2001 and matched by Andrew Parker last season. Butler was also second on the team with a .414 slugging percentage. He compiled a .987 fielding percentage.

Butler was also selected to the CAA's All-Rookie Team, becoming the first Tiger to earn CAA All-Rookie honors since outfielder Ben Winter was named to the All-Rookie Team in 2009.

The Tigers join top-seeded UNC Wilmington, second-seeded Hofstra, Delaware, fourth-seeded George Mason and fifth-seeded Virginia Commonwealth in the CAA Tournament, a double-elimination tourney. Towson is making its first CAA Tournament appearance since 2008.
